In the last few weeks, the Chechnya´s authorities have been accused of kidnap, torture and murder of LGBT people. The Russian newspaper “Novaya Gazeta” said that there’s a “ gay concentration camp” and at least 100 gays men have been abducted by the police.
The government denies the existence of any concentration camp and says that there are no homosexuals in the country. According to locals NGO’s, after being arrested and tortured, the homosexuals are returned to be murdered by their own families in order to save their honor.
The Russian LGBT Network works on the evacuation of the ones that may be persecuted by the authorities. Until now, more than 30 people have already been supported.
Several organizations around the world collect money to help the evacuation of the region. It´s still dangerous for gays remain in the country, so it’s also necessary for them to leave it. The Russian LGBT Network is working in cooperation with the Moscow Community Center, in Moscow.
