Recommendations on Brazil to President Biden and the New Administration

February 11, 2021

With the contribution and/or endorsement of 100 academics from universities such as Harvard, Brown and Columbia, and of organizations such as Greenpeace USA, Amazon Watch, Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR), Defend Democracy in Brazil, the USNDB has delivered to the Biden-Harris Administration urgent recommendations for US-Brazil Policy across 10 critical issues. The Brazilian Interdisciplinary AIDS Association (ABIA) has summarized and reviewed the report’s key points and made available in this website.

According to ABIA, the document provides a short but sharp background analysis of Brazil’s current political, economic, social and environmental conditions, requesting the new U.S. administration take decisive action to revoke the special entente that had been established between Bolsonaro administration and the previous U.S government that has contributed to de-legitimize democracy, in addition to other detrimental effects. It offers ten highlights of the most nefarious impacts of the Bolsonaro’s government, which needs to be cautiously taken into consideration in the redefinition of U.S. external policy in relation to Brazil.
